Glass Fibre and Mineral Reinforced Polypropylene

Chemicals LabThe Thermofil® range of reinforced polypropylene compounds has a forty year pedigree of development in meeting the evolving and challenging requirements of the global Automotive, Household Appliance and General Engineering industries.

Sumika Polymer Compounds is widely recognised as leader in the technology of chemically coupled glass fibre reinforced polypropylene with a long history of supply to major international OEM for applications such as:

• Automotive: high temperature and high toughness under-hood components – replacing glass fibre polyamide and polyester whilst delivering substantial weight reduction.
• Appliances: dynamically stressed components such as structural drums for front loading washing machines with detergent resistance accredited to UL® standards – with experience in design and supply spanning in excess of 30 years.
• Engineering: fast cycling grades for thick wall applications in air movement fans and chemical plant - including grades specially modified for structural foam moulding.

Utilising latest CAE tools we work closely with our OEM partners in bringing material and geometry together in design harmony; customising where necessary to yield best benefit in terms of performance and cost.

The Thermofil® range of mineral filled polypropylene bridge the gap between the glass filled and unfilled polypropylene resin and has been tailored for targeted applications such as:

• automotive bumpers – a range of supertough compounds formulated for specific OEM compliance with optional body colour finishing.
• passenger compartment fascia and trim – aesthetic high impact and low scratch grades supplied to exacting standards of colour control.
• a general range of engineering grades based on a wide variety of mineral fillers and other speciality reinforcements - including high temperature and chemically resistant low warp grades for metal replacement applications.

The Thermofil® range of glass and mineral modified PP span the whole spectrum from high purity grades suitable for USP Class VI and WFBS compliance to grades formulated to an OEM or industry defined recycled content.

Our philosophy is to tailor grades to meet identified needs – hence the grade range is continually evolving.

High Density Polyethylene

Sumika Polymer Compounds supply Sumitomo high density polyethylene resin also glass filled grades and other compounds based on high density polyethylene.

High Density Polyethylene is commonly used in a wide variety of injection moulded and extruded engineering and construction applications where low temperature toughness and improved resistance to weathering is required.

High Density Polyethylene is resistant to many solvents and this leads to its use in a wide variety of container applications both injected and blow moulded.

The packaging industry is increasingly turning to high density polyethylene as an environmentally friendly material with food contact capability.

Thermoplastic Elastomer

Sumika Polymer Compounds supply Sumitomo Espolex® Thermoplastic Elastomer.

The product portfolio includes olefin based ThermoPlastic Elastomer (TPE) and ThermoPlastic Vulcanisate (TPV) materials - with a broad range of hardness, stiffness and flowability.

Grades have been designed to specific target applications which include:

• Automotive Interior Trim
• Overmoulding Applications
• Air Bag Covers
• Injection Moulding - specific.
• Extruded Sheet and Profile - specific.
